TURNING TRACKS ARE CHALLENGING SAYS JOHN WRIGHT

What are your impressions on Virat Kohli's captaincy?

I've always liked Virat's approach to the game. He's passionate and aggressive. You pick your best eleven and then pick your captain, he's always going to be in your best eleven. He's got huge shoes to fill but he's up for the job. Captaincy is a great opportunity, but it's a tough job.

Do you think that Kohli should lead Team India in ODIs too?

I'm too far away from the action. I'm too far away from the action to comment on that. MS Dhoni's performances are legendary. He is someone who's won World Cups, someone who's taken his country to No. 1 in the Test rankings.

What's your take on India's obsession for preparing turning tracks at home?

From what I understand, one of the wickets turned a lot but the rest weren't too bad. I don't think it's a bad thing where countries have different conditions to examine technique. If you look at any side that comes here and you know you have wickets that turn, the first question you ask as an Indian coach is do they have a quality spinner that can make life as difficult for us as we can or them? India were stronger in the spin department. The challenge will be when India go back to South Africa. I imagine they're going to get wickets with grass.

Who do you think are the favourites to win the ICC World T20?

India, obviously, as they're playing at home. It's probably too early to tell. Playing here is a big advantage. The big trick will be selecting the combination.

A lot of overseas cricketers have adapted to Indian conditions while playing in the Indian Premier League. Do you think that will serve to other teams' advantage?

We only have to look at Brendon McCullum (New Zealand), AB de Villiers (South Africa), they have probably played more T20 cricket here than anywhere else. Yeah, that definitely is a factor and players arrive here having played here and knowing what to expect. But having said that, if you look at the whole 11, I think it will be a very good tournament.

Do you think day-night Test cricket is good for the game?

It has made an encouraging start and captured the imagination of the fans. That's an important part of cricket these days.

About Rohit Sharma and his lack of runs in Tests...

When Rohit is in full flight... he's one of the most exciting players I've seen, in terms of ball-striking ability with classical shots. I'm sure there's a place for him among the top six in India in any form of the game. Players like Rohit, because they're so brilliant in the way they play , because of their shot-making ability, they take risks. His innings last year in the final won us IPL. In Test cricket, it's a matter of feeling at home, particularly in India.

Sometimes you've got to stick with players. The thing about Test cricket is you want to feel at home in the team, you don't want to be judged every time you go to the wicket. I hope that he succeeds in Test cricket because he adds such a lot to a side.
